This week, the OnStrategy Team traveled to Alaska to facilitate annual strategic planning sessions with one of our longest standing clients, the North Slope Borough School District. During our summertime stay in Alaska we came away with some interesting notes.
We’ve been working with North Slope for nearly 10 years. We came to the realization that we’ve been helping North Slope facilitate, manage and execute their plan for nearly a decade. It’s amazing how time flies.
You have to ask the hard questions around organizational systems and process. When strategy meets paper, you have to ask the hard questions about how objectives and goals can be turned into manageable processes. Without the right processes in place you’ll see the wheels spin with no traction.
Processes bring life to strategy. Without processes, strategy just becomes a bullet point on paper. As the years have gone by, it has become clear that we need to help North Slope build processes so their people can execute their plan.
We visited the Salty Dog. This bar is famous for collecting tales from the sea on “The Deadliest Catch”.
You can actually wear sunglasses at midnight. The summer solstice brings daylight nearly 24/7. So in Alaska it actually is acceptable to “wear sunglasses at night.”
