Preserving the Largest National Forest in Utah

Mar 28, 2019

Dixie National Forest is the largest in Utah, covering some of the most visited areas of the state – including Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. With such a sprawling park and driving need for conserving its future, Dixie’s leadership realized the need for a clear strategic plan and partnerships to help educate the public and visitors about how they can help preserve some of Utah’s most defining sceneries.

Covering almost two million acres, Dixie is broken into four distinct districts. Spread across such a large geography, leadership knew success in strategic planning and conservation required their organization to gather under one roof to align their priorities. But true alignment is only achieved when all stakeholders have a seat at the table.

Dixie recognized that leadership can’t do it alone. The non-profit and education sector was critical in gaining insights and perceptions that all play a vital role in conservation education and being lifelong stewards of the forest. So, to make their strategy even more robust and impactful, Dixie’s leadership invited these leaders to establish a vision for the Forest related to education and conservation.

During their one-day session, it was amazing to see the hands-on participation and passion for the Forest. The focus on creating priorities, defining working relationships, and establishing the partnerships felt both strategic and inspiring. It was truly amazing to see the different minds in the room come together in the name of preserving a place they all love and appreciate so much.

The focus and alignment we saw from Dixie National Forest is a testament to the power of planning with a clear mission and intention. Excellent work!
